Sensation and perception. That's what we got to work with. Take it in and make sense of it, or maybe take it in and just feel it. What happens when perception bypasses words and intellect and goes straight to feeling? What happens when original intention is misinterpreted? What if intent comes clear to the artist only after the piece is complete? What if the only intent that matters is the viewers interpretation of intent? What if each individual viewer attaches their own meaning? What if that’s the only true meaning? Work presented here is culled from many different series created over many different years. Initially, recent work will be presented here. But my recent work does not necessarily have recent roots. I use photographic imagery from my whole career to make new pictures. Older works will be presented as time goes on. .......ha ha ha ha, had you going there, didn’t I? Maybe you see what I see and maybe you don’t. Neither is correct and neither is wrong. I‘ve always made pictures. Suppose I always will. I like to look at them. Maybe you do too.

I live on the northcoast of America. "Where is that?", you may be inclined to ask. Lets just say if you went any further, you would cross the border into another land, a rugged wilderness known as "Canadia", or at least suburban Ontario. The year was 1960. I was born on the West Side of the City of Buffalo on Normal Avenue, above my fathers hardware store. Well,…. not actually above the hardware store, at the hospital which is , oh….about ten blocks from the hardware store. But really , on an avenue called Normal , which might be considered somewhat ironic. I have made pictures as long as I can remember. The first one I recall being a large random scribble on manilla paper, the resulting shapes filled with bright colors. “I think I see a bunny!” my sister opined. My first feedback from a sympathetic critic. From that very day I was sent hurling down the path to becoming an artist. Anyway, I have a Bachelors in Design (1983), have had countless shows across the entire Northcoast and beyond. I have taught at Villa Maria College and Buffalo State College. I am also a musician. Current endeavors include vacantiarts, which consists of myself and my wife, Janet Vacanti who is also a visual artist along with being a writer and jewelry designer.
