The day I became an artist wasn’t the first time I picked up a pencil or brush but the first time I connected sensually with the beauty of a singular moment in nature and made my first attempt to communicate that moment to an audience; not as a mere chronicler or historian but as a spiritualist attempting to evoke a sense of the whimsy and reverence I felt while witnessing firsthand the effects of light, wind and weather on the land. At that point I discovered both the difficulty and the privilege of being an artist; to perceive the unobserved and communicate it in an image that resonates with inspiration. With every painting, I stand at a new threshold… in a doorway that connects to the familiar, yet vanishing vistas on this earth.

An award winning plein air painter and teacher, Duarde entered the ranks of professional art in 2002 after over 35 years in public accounting and commercial real estate development. His true passion is found in painting seascapes and landscapes "en plein air". Duarde is a member of the International Plein Air Painters, a Signature Member of the American Society of Landscape Painters, an Affiliated Member of the National Academy of Professional Plein Air Painters and a member of the California Art Club.. His works are part of many corporate and private collections and he is represented by The Gallery at the Art Deck in Duluth, Minnesota and online at artprice.com. He currently divides his time between painting, traveling, teaching and conducting workshops throughout the United States.
