Joann Feeney has long been interested in drawing and painting. As a young girl, she studied pastel and oil painting. Her love of gardening is reflected in much of her work. Details of plants and flowers send her to the drawing board.
Pastel is a favored medium, and much of her work is done in pastel and/or Conte. Watercolors as well as pen and ink are also included in her portfolio. The detailed work she is attracted to is usually done in ink.
Ms. Feeney is enchanted with color and use it boldly, trying to see it in all its various subtleties. Her paintings are guided by the interplay of light and shadow, giving structure to the color; her preference is to work from life, whether it is a bowl of fruit, a garden flower, or the human form. The amazing beauty she has found in both nature and humanity keeps her constantly striving to convey this in her work.>
