With a university background in genetics, I spent a number of years at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, as publications manager where I was able to feed my love of movement and beauty through my involvement with classical ballet.
Now based in Istanbul as a freelance photographer (being of mixed Turkish-British parentage), I attempt to show the real face of everyday Turkey through my images by wandering the streets with camera in hand. I recently accompanied The Royal Ballet during their first-ever tour to the Aspendos Festival in Antalya, Turkey, photographing the dancers on and off-stage the ancient amphitheatre. Also my life as a photographer was profiled on Turkish channel 24 on their 'Living in Turkey' series this June.
Another interest and specialisation, graphic images of plants and gardens, can also be found in my portfolio of images. I enjoy spending hours studying a plant through my macro lens and the resulting image never fails to surprise and bewitch me. My knowledge of plants stems from much self-study and nurturing of a small city garden in London, topped up with botanical trips to both Turkey and Crete. I also hold a garden design qualification from the English Gardening School.
My commissioned work includes images for 'Turkish Cookery' (Saqi Books) and a forthcoming book on Mediterranean trees and shrubs by botanist Dr John Akeroyd. I recently provided the cover image for the first issue of British magazine 'tasteAnatolia' and interior design images for Turkish 'Home Art' magazine.
