I believe that the purpose of art in any form, is to reach the viewer and bring up emotion. Some art makes us angry, some sad, but the best emotions that can arise are those which make us more keen towards recognizing the beauty in life, engender good acts towards those less fortunate, and make us more aware that we are all linked spiritually in this world, together. We are the images we see in a graceful flower, in a playful child, in the integrity of even the most impoverished. Grace, dignity, innocence, and compassion - virtues to be recognized in us all.
I have been doing artwork all of my life. It has always been a way of relaxation for me, and such an easy way to express my inner most thoughts and perceptions. I was inspired by my mother who photographed the flowers she grew in her garden, and of the beautiful portraits she took of our family when I was growing up.
My work is primarly based on photography and then I enhance with color, either by applying oils to the print, or by tinting the image digitally in photoshop.
I am very inspired by the work of Georgia O'Keefe; When I looked at her work, I thought, "she does exactly what she wants." Then some weeks later I read a bibliography on her, and she was noted as havaing said (and I paraphrase), "In art, I do exactly what I want." To me, she was very progressive.
