Original Medium: Painting
What the artist says about this work:
A hazy ocean scene is interrupted by obscure, black markings. This work is concerned with the tension between the painting surface and the picture depth. The markings on the side disrupt the viewing experience and bring us back to the canvas as object. At the same time, it is meant to evoke a sense of a storm approaching, of foreboding. For me, this work recalls an old discarded postcard from the days when transoceanic journeys were often forever. This is the origin of the name, "Soubetsu", which means 'parting'.
