About this work:
“El Casamiento” was inspired by my parents wedding photograph. I took many liberties with the original – but I can still see my mother and father standing there. Many people take “Till death do you part” as a contractual arrangement or a last second prenuptial agreement. My question is this “Why would we ever want to be parted from those we love? Sure, I can understand time apart, relationships – from what I know – can use time away to create better times together. But “till death do you part” does not speak of time away, it speaks of a break, an actual parting – caused by death. It speaks of the arrogance of a world that declares “ If I don’t see you – you don’t exist.” And to my way of thinking – just as with other worldly proclamations – the world has this one wrong. The truth is, I am blinded by my parents, I cannot image them separate from one and other. I know they are individuals with differing ideas and dreams, but to me, those differing worlds are forever intertwined in a world they created for each other and their children.
